![]() That doesn't sound so bad, right? Before YNABīefore I discovered YNAB and its approach to budgeting, I thought I had a budget. Or, if you prefer to socialize with friends, or travel, or buy books, or some combination of these things, that is also fine! (As long as you do prepare for those other expanses that will occur, to avoid going into debt.) Budgeting is simply a matter of aligning the money you have with these priorities, and making sure you can afford the things you need and want, in that order. If you prioritize saving and preparing for future expenses, you should do that. Instead, it is all about aligning what you do with money with your actual priorities. ![]() There are no rules about how to spend money or what is "ok" to do-aside perhaps from “spend less than you make”. Who wants to do that?įortunately, budgeting is not actually like that. Budgeting sounds like dieting, which rarely works in the long run and usually makes us feel awful. When you hear the word "budget", you likely recoil-most of us associate it with being overly frugal and denying ourselves things we want. Me unintentionally praising YNAB (with some of their great swag) during a recent family vacation.
